(15 Left!)Does anybody mind answering my survey?

Sat Sep 27, 2008, 3:26 AM
I've already accumulated about half of the required respondents for my survey and I'm asking for a little bit of last minute help. I need 50 more respondents to go! I hope you'll give me a chance and answer my survey about comic books.

Greetings! I'm John Raymond Bumanglag, a graduating student from the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design, majoring in Advertising Arts. I'm currently working on my comic book illustration thesis regarding the EXPLORATION OF FILIPINO KOMIKS ART STYLE, WATERCOLOR, PEN AND INK. Answering this survey will greatly help me accomplish my requirements. All your answers will be held in confidentiality and will be used for academic purposes only.

The survey is short, roughly 20 questions. It'll only take less than 15 minutes of your time. If you're interested, please click on the link below. Thank you very much!

Jorabu, I made a typo error on one of your questions. The store was DRUID'S KEEP, not dungeons keep. Anyway, pasensiya ka na sa mga opinions ko about Komiks style. That's what I feel kasi, and who am I kidding di ba? Pati yung mga old masters like Redondo have influences from the western world. Even Floro Dery (one of my faves. You can add that pala in one of the answers I made). And I read somewhere that some Komiks artist was influenced from Alex Toth. So I don't think may Filipino Style. But that's just me.

It's ok, the important thing for me is that you were honest and straightforward...perception and opinion mo yun about the style...:D..part yun ng thesis..thanks a lot!hehehe
Well, lately I thought that there is a Filipino style...but not in terms of drawing or art...but in terms of making the LAYOUT of a Filipino comic book. Komiks are 5 page stories, with titles found at the top (banner) of the first page, and we have the "Ang Nakaraan" caption below it. And this made us different from American comics and the Japanese. This layout stands the test of time since the 50s with Kenkoy. Anyway, we Filipinos have this "buffet" culture which we like different things in one serving. But we are the same like the Japanese in terms of making anthologies in comics. A normal manga in Japan is like 10 stories in one book and printed in cheap newsprint. They just throw these away after one reading.

i think there's a comic version out for Noli and El Fili. Though you can give it a more professional look like more graphic? I don't know. Try looking for it in bookstores. It's not that visually appealing. ^^;

Anyhow, I wish you all the best with your research! :w00t:

Oh by the way, I know Someone who can write like in the level of DC or Marvel. Look up David Hontiveros. Good writer and a good friend.

he sounds familiar to me. So, are you intending to collab with him for your research? :)

In making a comic book to sell? No. But I'll be doing a comic book version of his short story about cloning. Right now he's into something more productive than making comics, coz like everyone else... the guy needs to...uh... "milk a cow".

Thanks! Anyway, yeah, I saw those comics. The stories are a bit confusing. For instance, in El Fili, somebody fell from the top of a church and an old woman runs out shouting like crazy. What's up with that? I have to read the book so I can better understand it. And yes, it's not visually appealing. The art is like decades old. :p
